This is some heavy, rocking and crunchy Thrash Metal all the way from Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico. Ruled by Anger is Sixpounder's 7-track debut studio album and even if this Mexican trio thrashes somewhat convincingly, this stuff doesn't sink as many ships as the band's namesake would imply. Vocalist and guitarist Eliasib R. Castañeda has a good voice for Thrash but there are thousands of other singers that sound like him. He does have hot hands when it comes to his 6-string axe. There's no denying he is attempting cross his riffs over to a more progressive level of Thrash, just to keep their stuff challenging for the listeners.
This album reminds me of Destruction's Eternal Devastation/Release from Agony era, riff-wise, but the songs don't have the same catchiness, cleverness or variety. Without putting them down too much, let me say that Sixpounder clearly have a pretty good vibe pulsing through their songs but they end up being just half-good. Like I mentioned earlier, they simply aren't sinking my ship into deep dark waters yet. Better luck next time.
