It is hard to say if Sweden's Carnal Agony lives up to their stated influences (Iron Maiden, Metallica and Morbid Angel) because the production on their self-titled demo is appalling. The vocals are too far in the back, not to mention occasionally flat. The drums, especially on opening track "Rebel's Lament," are an annoying snap that drowns out everything else. The sound improves marginally as Carnal Agony progresses and the music morphs from Traditional Metal to a Death Metal sound, but not enough to make it much more pleasant to hear. To be fair, this is a young band and this is a demo, but hopefully this isn't the best Carnal Agony has to offer. |
