Eryn Non Dae are a French progressive metal act, who it seems aren't content to play one style. On their sophomore release Meliora the band serve up a melting pot of modern metal influence ranging from post to hardcore to sludge and so on so forth. I guess fans of Isis, Cult Of Luna and the like will no doubt find something to enjoy here. At seven tracks just under an hour, this is a pretty big investment of time. The album operates in a weird way, in that the first two songs (totaling twenty minutes) are fairly drawn out and unspectacular. It isn't until "Scarlet Rising" that the band kick things up a notch channeling some Ihsahn-style magic. As I've stated the range of influence is quite eclectic, and I can imagine those who enjoy their avant-garde music will no doubt find plenty to sink their teeth into. Musically the band clearly has some chops, with a particularly tight rhythm section. All in all this is interesting enough but not really for me, and I wouldn't imagine many of the readers here at The Metal Crypt would fine anything too interesting on Meliora. However if this style of music is for you and a mix of acts such as Isis, Ihsahn and Moloken sounds good, then you should probably give Eryn Non Dae a look. |
