With a band name like Graveyard and an EP entitled The Altar of the Sculpted Skulls, it's a safe bet you're in for some Death Metal, Black Metal, or, as in this case, a combination of the two. The vocals on The Altar of the Sculpted Skulls are all Death, a low growl that is occasionally decipherable. The riffs range from Thrashy Death to Black tremolo picking. All is done well and the instrumental "Cult of the Shadows" creates some fine, creepy atmosphere. The rest of the songs are generic and unlikely to change your opinion of this style regardless of which side of the fence you happen to be on. Decent, but ultimately just another face in the crowd. |
