More from eclectic Doom band Astral Sleep, and I continue to find their music increasingly interesting and involving, because while working within the bounds of the Doom subgenre, Astral Sleep are just weird enough to keep trying new things to keep it interesting. Case in point is this EP, which is actually three different versions of the same song. Apparently lyrics were written, and then three different compositions made for them. All of these show Astral Sleep's trademark oddity in the shifting riff and vocal styles while still keeping a consistent mood and feeling. Normally I would find this kind of thing self-indulgent and uninteresting, but the band keeps their music exciting throughout. Astral Sleep are producing some of the most adventurous Doom music out there, and they are definitely a band to watch for. |
