This album is advertised as power metal, but I must say I hear more of a classic heavy metal sound (music and vocals) here. There are some noticeable power metal influences here and there, but that's far from making the bulk of the sound. It's not exactly easy to describe the music, as I hear many diverse influences such as Dio, early Dokken, a bit of Black Sabbath and Ozzy, as well as some German power metal. The vocals vary for relatively aggressive to melodic, sometimes with some choir singing (thankfully they didn't go overboard with that.)

"Matters of the Dark" is an album that displays quite a bit of variety due to its various influences, and should please fans of classic heavy metal and power metal. Coupled with strong musicianship and some catchy songs, this one is pretty much a must-have. Tad Morose join their countrymates Wolf in presenting an effective, no-frills approach to heavy metal music - presenting great songs while sticking to the roots of the music and avoid falling into the trend-of-the-month sound. The album never gets boring, picking up speed whenever you feel like things are going to quiet down. This should do anything but leave you feeling a tad morose. Lame pun intended. :)
