The Shadow over Atlantis is the sophomore album of this British Doom Metal band, and with the quantity of groups of the genre, The Wounded Kings have little that separate them from the pack. First of, prepare for a slow brand of doom, and when I mean slow, I mean like "I want to shoot myself in the fucking head" kind of slow. Second, there is a severe lack of variety here, it seems like I always hear the same chord progression in every song, over and over again. Hell, I challenge you to listen to the 10 minutes songs "The Swirling Mist" and "Invocation of the Ancients" and tell me if there is any difference at all.

The Wounded Kings are a two-man band and I don't know if that is good or bad because the performances are average. Then again, with this songwriting quality, even a music novice could have performed this. Production-wise, it is a mess; the band tried to go for a vintage job but for the most part it falls flat, the vocals sound like background noise, the guitars have no punch, the drums are thin and there is no bass to speak off. Normally I would say wait until this moment or that part to hear something good but in this case, I really can't.

The only two things that I could find that are somewhat good are the creepy keyboards and the instrumentals pieces. However, both aspects are way too short to make any kind difference to the listener. At the end of the day I felt that this was just a waste of time and I quickly forgot anything about the album after I finished listening to it. If you are a doomster that can't get too much of this tedious bullshit then go ahead and buy this. But for me, I'll go and listen to Solstice when I want listen to good British doom.
