Well this is better than I thought at first spin, and it does show some potential. Grimwolf sounds like the name for a Black Metal band, but really this band is more about a very aggressive Heavy Metal sound that unfortunately flirts with groove pretty heavily in places. There are some decent if unmemorable riffs on this, and some quite good leads, but the songs themselves don't catch fire, and none of them stick after the disc is over. The vocals of frontman/guitarist Brent Wisdom are not much help, as they waver between growls and rough thrash-styled vocals without doing either very well, and there are no catchy choruses or vocal hooks for these songs to come together around. Overall I found this listenable, but too groovy and not catchy enough to get really excited about. |
