This is the rebirth of a second-wave band from Sweden, probably most famous for once featuring Dissection's Jon Nodtveidt and releasing an underground album The Priest of Satan back in 1994. This is their first release since then, and so I was wondering if this would be any good, or just another cash grab. I would say good, as to my ears this is some kickass black stinking metal. There's nothing new here, and this is pretty much in the vein of early Mayhem or Darkthrone with a raw production job and a nice mix of slow grinding and fast blasting riffs. The guitar sound is evil, the vocals are a necro-croak laden with effects, and the songwriting is pretty solid. This won't blow you away, but if you just want unrepentant old-school Scandinavian Black Metal with no frills at all, get this fucker. |
