Shadows Past, a Power Metal band out of Sweden, has been around since 2000 and was originally put together to back up Insania singer Ola Halen's solo efforts. Giving it a go as a full band since 2005, this is their 2nd demo.
Shadows Past have given us three tracks of high energy Power Metal that, while well played and delivered with the precision the discriminating fan demands in this genre, are quite generic. If you're familiar with the past output of bands like Arthemis, Heavenly or Celesty, you'll know what to expect. For those that haven't, the easiest way to describe the songs on Perfect Chapter is "happy" Power Metal. Heavy riffing guitars trade melody lines with sweeping keyboards all layered over tons of double kick drums. Singer Halen has a prototypical Power Metal voice: strong and high-pitched. "Cry No More," the lone holdover track from the Blown Away demo, is probably the best of the three (probably why they put it on this new demo), but "Who Am I?" and "Perfect Chapter" aren't far behind in quality or sound.
It would be somewhat of a surprise if Shadows Past doesn't get picked up by some label for the release of a full-length album. If and when they do, I hope they have a few different ideas up their sleeves or they're likely to get lost in the shuffle.
