Seven Tears are a Swedish band who call themselves "Prog Metal", but they are really more rock than metal. This isn't bad, and features some good vocals, catchy keyboards, and some really fine leadwork. But there are problems with this release: overall the band is too derivative of other bands within the genre, the vocals are good but the actual vocal melodies are tepid, and the stellar leadwork cannot help the flat, boring rhythm sound. This is only prog in the sense of sounding like other prog bands, not in actually pushing any boundaries; and this is not really metal at all. Seven Tears show definite promise, but they aren't ready to fly yet.
