Ever had one of those times where you turn on an album, and then a couple songs later, you realize that it's not even good background music, and you've been concentrating on something else the entire time? One of those albums where you have to force yourself to pay attention and pry your mind away from everything else? That's what this is, and when I did end up concentrating, I was far more annoyed than I would've been otherwise. I could review this entire album from just the first two songs, since it is all the same, and not good in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" way. Titanic are a failed Christian Metal band disguising themselves as a Running Wild clone, which is just as bizarre as it sounds. The first song "Shovel the Coal" is pretty decent Running Wild worship, with an anthemic chorus (albeit one that won't stick with you for long) and a solid rhythm base, but then you get to the second song, and it sounds exactly the same, and the rest of the album follows suit. That's right, every single song here is pretty much a clone of the last; a cookie-cutter replica right down to the shallow choruses and bland chugga-chugga retro-Power Metal riffs. Every song on this album is around the exact same 3 minute length, and the songwriting is the most stale and convoluted I've ever heard. There's nothing here that comes off as stimulating or energetic, nothing that sounds like the band had fun while writing it, nothing that stands out from the pack and will not make you roll your eyes in disgust. This album is just what I described: nothing at all. And no, this hasn't been a well written review, because there simply isn't anything worthwhile to say about this album, but here I am anyway. While Full Steam Ahead is a gross lie, the name of the band is spot on, as this ship is sinking fast. |
