This Colorado-based melodic death metal band has been active at least for a couple of years, as this demo is dated 1999. Comprising 4 songs + 1 bonus track - a live version of the first song, Ancient Throne, In Eternity gives a good idea of Serberus' capabilities. This is melodic death metal, so it's pretty obvious that it has some Gothenberg influence (In Flames and the likes), but I wouldn't consider them wanna-bes or copycats. I sense more influence from classic metal than the Gothenberg bands have, so what we end up with is an interesting mixture of the 80s and 90s sounds. The vocals are of the same type as In Flames and Dark Tranquillity, semi-growls quite adequate for the genre. Note that both guitarists do the lead vocals, so that makes for some more variety.
The booklet is very well done for a demo, including all lyrics, a band picture and complete contact information. Some signed bands should start taking notes here.
- Includes one bonus track
