This is the band formed by the remaining members of Windir after the death of Valfar. Considering how lauded that band was, I am surprised I hadn't heard more about this one, but somehow they have managed to produce three albums without me hearing anything. Of course I was never a big Windir fan, so maybe I just wasn't looking.

I was expecting this to be pretty much like Windir, but actually this is far less interesting. The energy, the folky tinges were obviously Valfar's influence, and without him the remaining guys can't seem to do anything exciting. There are some decent riffs on this album, but overall this is tremendously clichéd Black Metal that does nothing to really stand out from the mass of similar bands. Almost all these songs plod away at a middle-of-the-road speed with the vocals yapping pedantically, as if they were reading to us from a tract. I was never a huge Windir fan, but this sad remnant is almost enough to make me nostalgic for Arntor. Maybe Valfar wasn't the genius everyone seems to think, but at least he sounded excited about his music. Vreid just sound like their music bores them, and if they're bored making it, imagine how bored you'll be listening to it. Not recommended.
