Thou Art Lord are back with an album of "Satanic Death Thrash" - just another term for "we mixed a lot of genres". Unlike those who venture in non-metal music genre and generally suck at doing so, here the band has done a pretty good job offering a blend of black, death and raw thrash (yes, nowadays there is some "non-raw thrash", so I prefer to be specific :)), all accompanied by enough satanic lyrics to make your cutlery fly up in the air. The vocals are a low "growl", for lack of a better word, often decipherable enough to make up the lyrics even without the lyrics sheet. While they pull off the genre mix pretty well, the album is somewhat plagued with a problem common to almost all such albums: It sounds a bit disconnected; You can't help but feel that it lacks a bit of direction - the satanic lyrics being the only apparent connector here. Not that it's actually bad, far from that. There's a lot of good songs in here, my favourites being some of the totally headbangable thrash moments, as well as some of the old school Black material. Quite diversified and a bit monotonous at times, but there's enough good stuff in here to make it worth your while. |
