Proof positive that all the bands from 'The Old Days' are not good by default, Assassin flat out suck. Now there were several bands called Assassin back in the day, so make sure you are thinking of the right one. This band was broken up for a long time, and man, could they not have stayed there? This album is some of the worst crap I have heard in a long time.
I suppose this is intended to be Thrash of some sort, but honestly, this is pretty much hardcore or punk shit with some Thrash splattered here and there to make it eligible to be considered 'metal' by some standard. I would love to Shit List this one, but after too much careful consideration, I have to adjudge that this is some kind of metal – we own this one – it just sucks by any measure. Awful, repetitive riffs, weak guitar sound, upfront 'funky' basslines, truly hideous off-key yammering vocals that sound like a nutless Phil Anselmo impersonation – there is nothing here that is not painful. Verrrry occasionally the guitars will wring out a riff that isn't utterly awful, but then the vocals will get back to the tuneless hardcore shouting and the riff will get repeated until you hate it. So this album gets one point, as there are a few moments here that are not completely unlistenable, but they are far outweighed by the many, many moments that cause nothing but embarrassment and pain. Here's hoping for another seventeen years before we have to hear any of this crap again.
