It's been almost 4 years since I last reviewed an album by this band, and much to my surprise, this is the only full length album they have released since! Overall this album follows in the same general direction as "Caught In The Unlight!", but detaches itself a bit further from the Gothenburgh melodic death sound (you'll also find next to no In Flames-isms in this one.) It is still melodic death, but it sounds slightly more original this time around - although I must admit I got bored of this genre a while back and haven't followed such bands much in the past 3 years or so. The songs here are more aggressive and more raw than they were in the previous album and there's also a bit more old school thrash influences that made their way in, and they also make better use of guitar solos in there, some of which are actually pretty cool. Some of the songs could almost qualify as death metal (albeith lightweight), so we're far from the occasional pop-ish moments of the previous album. There's even some black-ish moments here and there. Maybe a little too much stuff crept in in retrospect, so it's difficult to get a real sense of direction here.
The vocal work is similar, again in your usual melodic death fashion - screechy growls that are occasionally decipherable. I'm not sure there's anything of interest here for those melodic death fanatics who have tons of the genre in their collection, but it is definitely a decent album although I can't say I found anything really outstanding about it. But I didn't find anything downright annoying either, so that definitely counts for something! :) Worth a look.
