I have seen this album described as "Black Metal Junk Food", but I don't know if I'd quite go that far. Thy Infernal are an American band who are supposedly still around, but have not released a CD since this, their second. Musically, Thy Infernal are completely in the vein of Death/Black bands like Belphegor or Marduk. They play fast, tremolo riffs with blasting drums and shriek about killing Jesus and raping nuns and such. They are not the tightest band out there, but they do write some cool riffs. This is extremely derivative, but otherwise there is no real downside to this disc. There are some especially cool tunes like "Rotting In Hell", "Wolfstorm" and "Night Of The Full Moon", and there are some more faceless numbers like "Armageddon". Vocals are a more Glen Benton-esque bellow than the usual rasps, but man do they abuse the harmonizer. Yeesh. The booklet is pretty cool, though the cover looks cooler from a couple of feet back, as it isn't very detailed. The lyrics are a hoot, with lots of caps for emphasis that makes you feel like you are reading a satanic porn spam. I was almost expecting them to offer to let me RAPE GOD'S MOTHER WITH YOUR GIANT PENNISSS!. Anyway, if you dig noisy, chaotic BM fun this is a CD worth grabbing if you run across it, as it is certainly entertaining, but I don't know if it's worth going to a lot of trouble to get. Belphegor's "Lucifer Incestus" sounds almost exactly like it, only better. But if you can't get enough, Thy Infernal are a blast. |
