This band really caught my attention with their debut back in 2021, The Train. It was a heady mix of progressive Power Metal with a lot of Iron Maiden flair added by Bruce Dickinson soundalike Flavio Lino. Well, Lino is gone, replaced by Alex VanTrue, who was on backing and "additional" vocals last time out. He's a strong replacement, even if he has a more generic Power Metal type of voice. So on the one hand, this band sounds more generic now, because they sound less like Iron Maiden, which is an odd thing to have to say. VanTrue is a capable vocalist, but he sounds less distinct, and I have to say the vocal melodies and songwriting just are not as strong this time out. So, overall, I find this a bit of a step back. Master Spy have stepped out of the shadow of sounding so much like Maiden, but they have not really established much of their own identity to replace that.
