The high-pitched voice here on the first song immediately made me think of Rush (which is not exactly a good thing, vocal-wise.) Things quickly improve in that department and the vocals end up sounding like a mix of Rush, Queensrÿche and Overkill - yeah, that weird I know. :) Scala Mercalli are a no-frills heavy metal band with some thrashy moments (a bit of Overkill influence there also?) The less thrashy moments sometimes remind me of early Metal Church. There's no pretention here: The band sticks to time-proven sounds and do not pretend to invent anything, sticking to playing some good old heavy metal (call it traditional if you like.) If anything, the demo production hurts this a bit, but it's worth getting over that and focusing solely on the music. The vocalist is decent but the accent and the somewhat "whiny" tones at times could turn off some people. The demo ends on a cover of Iron Maiden's "Be Quick Or Be Dead", an interesting version that remains close to the original while still having a bit of Scala Mercalli's touch added to it. Not bad. "My Daemons" is nothing to go crazy over, but it definitely shows some potential.
