Timeless Fairytale is a new international collaboration and if the band name and cover art didn't provide enough clues, they play neoclassical power metal on their debut album, A Story to Tell. The music has a strong Italian influence, which makes sense with guitarist/keyboardist Luca Selitto (Marco Garau's Magic Opera) on board. Singer Henrik Brockmann has the right clear, strong voice for this kind of music and mostly steers clear of stratospheric screams, relying on his charismatic mid-range to propel Timeless Fairytale's songs. A Story to Tell as a whole is well played and produced but follows the blueprint for neoclassical power metal laid down by Rhapsody of Fire quite closely and I can't say they do anything utterly fantastic or new and exciting enough to separate it from all the other albums it is competing against. It's a good album and very listenable, sure to please fans of neoclassical power metal but unlikely to pull any new fans into the fold. |
