Like a bullet to the head, we get the fourth album from Canadian thrashers Torrefy, who crank out aggressive yet complex stuff that sits somewhere between Skeletonwitch and Anancrusis—if not as frenetic as that might imply. This band splices a lot of riffs together to make their percussive compositions fly, and if they don't always have the songwriting to pull it off completely, this is an album that never sits on its ass, it's always in your face, doing something new and different. The level of musicianship is high, and even if the vocals aren't as varied and interesting as the music, they get the job done. Fans of Vektor, Coroner, early Voïvod, and maybe Obliveon will find something to like here. |
