Another solid album for Solitary, Embrace the Darkness still has that old-school "clean" thrash vibe to some extent and the non-shouted vocals will remind you of Testament, while the shouted ones have a more modern style to them, and that takes a little getting used to. The music is heavy through and through, it feels meaty and the generous melodies don't take anything away from that, rather calling back to mid-to-late '80s U.S. thrash where aggression and melody worked hand in hand. It's been done before and better, but what I like here is that Solitary have picked a different enough approach to thrash that they at least sound different from a lot of thrash being thrown at us lately (strangely, it's the second time I've said something like this in the past week). I enjoy the album while it's on but can't really remember much while it's over. Another thing that can be said of many albums, so I'm beginning to wonder if that's really a bad thing. ;) If you're looking for a different take on thrash, check this out.
