Daydream Illusion is the third album from Germany's Thornbridge and it is a real treat for the classic power metal fan. They take the melodic, Italian style, minus the overindulgent neo-classical noodling, and blend it with a northern European approach which is heavy but not so crunchy the songs lose their grandeur. It doesn't matter if Thornbridge is opening the album with a foot-stomping blazer in the title track, soaring on fantasy wings on "Bird of Salvation," cranking up the double-kick drums on "I Am the Storm," or taking an introspective turn on the ballad, "Send Me a Light," every last song is a winner. I can't remember the last time I heard an album this consistently catchy. There isn't much here that hasn't been done before, but Thornbridge does just about everything right on Daydream Illusion. Fans of the early (and best) work from bands like Mob Rules, Celesty, Fairyland, etc. should not miss this one. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
