I have seen this billed as "Melodic Death Metal," and it is, but not really the way you would think. The sense of melody and riff style is much more derived from Black Metal than anything like Gothenburg, and this is much more like God Dethroned than Dark Tranquility. Nothing really glossy or slick about this, as it is aggressive and has a lot of atonality in the compositions. All this is to say that I like this a lot more than I thought I would. |
