I used to get stuff from Solitude Productions/BadMoodMan Music, who have a corner on the Doom Metal market in the old Soviet Bloc, and sometimes sign real gems like this band. I reviewed this band's second album back in 2010, Key to December, and I remember liking it really well. This is a band deeply entrenched in the classic period of Doom/Death—My Dying Bride, Anathema, Katatonia (back when they were all still innovative and interesting bands, not the sad shadows of themselves they have become.) You get crushingly heavy but melodically evocative riffing building long, slow songs with a lot of complexity and subtlety under the heaviness and gloom. The vocals are strictly average growls, and I do wish there was something more to them to match the depth of the compositions. I missed this when it came out a few years ago, but this is an underrated band who deserve more attention. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
