I love it when the band and/or album name pretty much tells you what's inside. Caverns of Occultic Hatred is one such album. Unsurprisingly, this is death metal and yes, it's vile, it's ritualistic, it has a bit of an occult vibe and it sure as hell doesn't sound like they're singing above loving thy neighbour. The deep growls are a perfect fit for the cavernous, primal yet atmospheric, brutal and crushingly heavy death metal that Vile Ritual throw upon the unsuspecting masses. There's a mix of Swedish and U.S. death metal going on here, mostly with the guitar work, but the album really stands on its own for a change, the band—well, one guy, really—showing enough of his basic influences but coming at the other end with his own chilling, nightmarish, brutal, dark and, above all addictive sound.
