This California band, by way of the city of Oakland, has been around for well over 20 years and after cranking out three full-length albums in their first five years of existence, have settled into a more varied series of shorter releases. Noxious Concoctions is their 2024 EP and features a brand of death metal that evokes in my mind a combination of proto-grind thrash like Nuclear Assault and modern death metal like Exhumed. That tracks as Ghoul's bassist, Cremator, happens to be Ross Sewage, bassist for Exhumed. Noxious Concoctions is a release for fans of death metal because it isn't trying to do anything other than be death metal, plain and simple. There's nothing particularly innovative but it is hard to imagine true fans not enjoying the blender full of riffs, creepiness, and gore Ghoul is whipping up. See below for more reviews... ↓ |
