Some new material from Sorcerer (this is the one from Florida) sees the band still banging away at their brand of borderline death/thrash extreme thrash. Mirages of Crystallized Horror sounds pretty damn raw and heavy, and it really comes off as in-your-face thrash as a result. It's brutal but surprisingly melodic on occasion, sometimes throwing in some creepy bits, and overall the band just plows ahead and crushes everything in its path with straightforward, barebones death-y thrash that comes off sounding like a good mix of mid-80s underground thrash and the more modern style—though not too much of the latter. There are some subtle, very old school winks at heavy rock and occult rock, at least that's what I was sometimes thrown back to, that give some songs a really cool vibe that just calls for repeat plays. Lots of thrash and death/thrash out there these days, but Sorcerer have something a little different to offer, so check it out if you've been overdosing on the same-old same-old. Nicely done.
