Varathron has always been reliable band when it comes to signature Greek black metal, and that's still true with The Crimson Temple. Gnarly rasps that are somewhat easy to decipher if you pay close enough attention, lots of melody, a speedy delivery but without getting anywhere near blasting black metal. The songs have kind of a flashy, almost epic vibe and they sound "big"—I'm reminded a bit of Fleshgod Apocalypse at times. The guitars are raw enough, though often held back in favour of the keyboards which are very much present here and are practically the driving force and also providing a melancholic atmosphere that's actually not too depressing and in fact really catchy. A big chunk of the melodies got stuck in my head after the first listen, so be prepared for earworm material. Another solid offering from Varathron.
