This Belgian black metal band hits all the right notes on Revelation. A little dark, menacing atmosphere where needed, but a lot of blasting black metal that sometimes sounds right out of the '90s, but for the most part this is a more modern variation on that sound; it's cleaner, more precise, more brutal, flirting a bit with death metal while not crossing over the fence. The rasps are a little in the back yet sometimes decipherable, and really blend well with the music. I've said this hundreds of times in recent years: this is not reinventing the genre, but it's the execution that matters, and Serpents Oath certainly hit the nail right on the head with this album. If you try to headbang to this, you'll fucking die. Like speedy and brutal black metal? Revelation certainly has a lot of dark, evil fun in stock for you.
