"Blackened heavy metal" is relatively rare (maybe I shouldn't type that out loud), so it's practically a curiosity when such an album lands in my inbox. The vocals are decipherable but harsher than what you'd hear in plain old heavy metal, kind of thrashy but tiptoeing on the blackened side of the fence. They're basically what sounds the harshest on the album because even though the music is a little rougher than a lot of heavy metal out there, it's still relatively clean and melodic, though Master's Call did a good job making it sound aggressive and dark, so while there's a lot of catchy guitar work and the likes, it's not especially accessible music that could draw in the uninitiated. The overall vibe is dark and menacing, mixed with a little suspense that makes this a good listen, and it's certainly a little different from a lot of the stuff landing here these days. |
