Second album from this British band who last released an album 10 years ago. I don't know what that one sounded like, but this one is really cool. When I say "Blackened Doom" you think of super-bleak stuff like old Forgotten Tomb, but this is not that. This is 90% occult Doom with a blackened atmosphere and a few forays into full-on Black Metal blasting. The vocals are like a 70/30 split between the tormented moans and howls of primary singer Alice Corvinus, and the growls and intonations of instrumentalist Richard Corvinus. Mix all of it with a dense, unfriendly recording job and sprawling, unconventional song structures, and you have an album that doesn't sound like any other band I have ever heard. Dirge-like songs, Lisa Gerrard-style wailing laid over Black Metal crushing, and atmosphere so thick you could carve it. It's not an easy listen, but it takes you places.
