This is a lot of fun. Straight out of Kentucky, these blackened death metallers deliver dark, crunchy and heavy music that's surprisingly catchy and even incorporating little melodic bits that actually fit pretty well in this savage aural onslaught that calls for the listener to take out all the air instruments and try to keep up. The title track is all acoustic I can't say I'm a big fan of such tracks, but it sounds good even though it feels a little out of place. It gives a bit of a breather before the neck-breaking closer "The Final Night" which cranks up the speed and plainly and simply rocks the fuck out, the catchiest song on this EP and my favourite because it's so much fun. There's nothing groundbreaking on Age of Darkness, but it's just well-executed black/death metal. |
