Teodolit are a Russian death metal project formed back in 2014 by Oksana Rage and Vlad, releasing a full-length album in 2018 that got some positive attention and beginning the recording process of this new EP in 2019. An advance single was released in 2020 before Oksana moved to Sweden to be with her husband, Devourer guitarist John Falk. He helped record the vocals and would go on to mix and master the release, and after finding a session drummer in Alex Semenov, they finally finished Entropy and plan to release roughly a week after this review goes up. Anyway, enough trivia, how's the music? Well, Entropy is four tracks of hammering old-school death metal that's brutal and direct, that's how it fucking is. Influences range from Morbid Angel to Immolation to Fallen Christ, making for music that's mostly pedal to the metal, but it does slow down the pace from time to time while never relenting on the vile hatred that seeps throughout the album, particularly from Oksana's wicked vocal delivery that sounds like she's in the middle of a violent exorcism. Bottom line, if you're looking to get your chest caved in by a brief but crushing blast of fucking death metal, then you are the exact person Entropy was made for. |
