Fairytale is a power metal band that may have an Italian-sounding name, but these guys are German and play music very much in line with that country's crunchy take on the style on their third album, Army of Ghosts. All the standard power metal elements are represented from double-kick drums, crunchy guitars, and catchy choruses. Grave Digger is probably a good first reference point with songs like "Waxwork" and "Horace P" sounding like they could have come from any of Chris Boltendahl and crew's most recent albums. They pour on the speed on tracks like "Voices from Inside" and "Morningside," which made me think of Iron Savior. The songs are entertaining enough and, while the riffs and melodies might be overly familiar, the lyrics are cool and creepy and elevate the songs a bit above the norm. If you dig crunchy, Germanic power metal, Army of Ghosts is worth checking out.
