M.T.G. are an Italian thrash act whose name is a mystery to me (no clue what it stands for), but what is clear is that they're all about old-school thrash with some crossover elements akin to some of D.R.I.'s earlier works. The playing is loose and sometimes messy, but there are meaty riffs, cool rhythm changes, gang shouts, and strong solos to spare, all basic things you need to make crossover thrash work. They also benefit from killer bass work that's up front in the mix and adds a lot of aggression along with the later Exumer-esque vocals of Mem von Stein. If you like your thrash to party as it kicks your teeth in, then Lobotomized is an album for you and M.T.G. a new band to watch out for in the future. |
