Finland, "A Land of a Thousand Lakes" is known in metal circles as "A Land of Thousands of Metal Bands," as there must be something in the water in all those lakes that makes Finns pick up guitars and bang their heads. The Last Prophecy is a band formed in 2021 that plays melodic death/thrash on their EP Hate Is My Redeemer. The songwriting and performances are typical with some good riffs and squealing solos and throaty, growling vocals, but nothing that hasn’t been done before. I can imagine these guys listening to bands like Death, Master, Possessed, etc. as they were learning their instruments, though I think they have taken a slightly more melodic approach while still trying to capture the aggressiveness of death/thrash. Hate is My Redeemer is a decent, if not overly distinctive, start for The Last Prophecy. |
