You know I love some occult, female-fronted Doom, and this band comes with an interesting pedigree, being a project of Wagner Lamounier/Wagner Antichrist—onetime guitarist/vocalist of Sarcofago on such classic albums as I.N.R.I. back in the old days. Apparently, in his free time from teaching university economics (really), he put together a few friends and this is the second album to result. This sounds pretty much like you would expect subterranean Sudamerican doom to sound like. It’s low-tuned, a bit sludgy, and leans a lot harder on the atmosphere than anything else. Vocalist "Mistress Wournous" has a low-pitched, versatile instrument that doesn’t get quite enough focus to be heard to the best effect. The album kind of alternates between primitive and bombastic, making for an experience that is interesting even when it is not that coherent. This is not groundbreaking, but it’s fun. |
