Another side project of JA/Jose Afonso, long the guitar player and vocalist for Decayed–an institution in the Portuguese underground with a career that stretches back more than 30 years. If you know this guy and his other bands (Alastor, Hoth), then you know he bows down before the altar of classic underground shit like Celtic Frost, Hellhammer, Sodom, and Bathory. Death Feast is another chance for him to work this vibe, with pummeling riffs, thugging rhythms, and low-pitched, Tom Warrior-styled vocal gargling. This album takes a very Hammer Horror kind of approach to the lyrics, making for a fun album about witches, Satan, blood and volcanoes. If you like this kind of primitive shit, then Death Feast do it right. |
