This is a pretty old melodic death metal album (1997) reissued in 2019 by Vic Records with some remastered demo tracks added as a bonus. This is not the Gothenburg melodic death you'd expect, though there are some similarities. I find the guitars much more incisive, fast and thrashy, that guitar tone just sticks with me long after the album is over. The album is actually quite melancholic, a little bit depressing at times. Keyboards pop up at seemingly random times, same for the occasional clean vocals. I found that a little annoying on the first few listens, but eventually you realize it kind of works. I guess you could say Seas of Eternal Silence marries Greek black metal and melodic death metal, as there are elements from both to be found here, along with some soloing that goes back decades. It's a bit disjointed for an album, and I found it's more enjoyable if you simply focus on each individual song rather than try to make sense of it as a whole. |
