There are a lot of bands called Tribunal, but this is a relatively new one from Canada releasing their debut album. I count this as Gothic Doom because it is primarily Doom, but has heavy goth elements, especially in the mixed vocal approach. This actually strongly reminds me of the stuff we used to get back around the turn of the century, with bands like Theater of Tragedy and Tristania adding gloomy atmosphere and female singing to their Doom/Death to make new sounds. So, this hits a definite nostalgia vibe, but it's not really doing anything that hasn't been already done, and done better. The recording is pretty good, if not stellar, and the songs kind of plod along at a very similar pace. This has mood, but not a lot else. |
