There are several metal bands by the name Solitude out there, but this one is something of a supergroup of Finnish musicians from various bands coming together to make good ol' fashioned doom metal in the vein of Black Sabbath and especially Candlemass. No one involved has done time with a pure doom act, so it's kind of surprising how good it came out, even if that's the only thing about this you could call surprising. Opener "Beneath the Fallen Leaves" being a 9-minute crawl that borders on funeral doom, right down to dragging in spots, while "He Who Prevails" and "The Sound of Absent Life," are both pure mid-tempo Candlemass worship, all of which is given life by the strong, emotive voice of Aleksi Parvianen, whose deeper register reminds me of Ville Valo of all people. As noted before, there's nothing here fans of doom haven't heard done before, but for a debut demo, it shows plenty of promise for a strong full-length and serves as a solid chunk of tried and true doom metal by itself.
