I like how Metalian are predictable, yet manage not to sound stale. For those who don't know, this is a band that's been playing old-school '80s-style heavy metal for about 20 years now, before it became yet another trend. Just like their past output, Beyond the Wall is chock-full of hard-hitting, straightforward, catchy heavy metal that packs a lot of crunch. There's an obvious (and sometimes not-so-obvious) Maiden influence throughout, though Metalian have more of an upbeat and kind of party-vibe thing going on. They really nail the mid-80s period. I'd say this one may is a tiny bit more polished and even, in the case of a couple of songs, more "easy listening," which I guess gives the listener a break from all the headbanging and air-guitaring that come with listening to an album like this one. So, just a little mellower, but no matter the song, if you've heard the band before, everything here will make you go "Hey, this sounds like Metalian." A safe buy, just like their previous material. |
