Well, this is fun. I had heard about this band before, but this is my first time hearing them. To say that this sounds like it was released in the mid-80s—with modern recording means—would be an understatement. Air Raid is one of these bands that's doing it full retro, and it's one that does it very well. Their sound is quite accessible, though I wouldn't go as far as to say it's commercial. Very melodic yet hard-hitting and heavy when the songs call for it, it's reminiscent of some U.S. heavy metal bands from nearly 40 years ago, with a little hint of Saxon here and there. The vocals are really addictive, the singer really bringing the songs to life with his high-pitched soaring vocals; I dare you not to at least be tempted to sing along on most of the album. As can be expected of the genre, you'll also want to bring out that air guitar and rock the fuck out. Speed, melody, heaviness, insane catchiness... if those ingredients sound good to you, then you should definitely check this one out. Air Raid leaves a lot of retro—and some of the originals—bands in the dust.
