Fuck yeah, this is how you do it! Tempest surprised me with their EP When Hate Has Dominion back in 2018, which was a small but killer offering of old-school U.S. Thrash in the vein of Testament and Exodus. Their latest, Point of No Return, is basically more of that, but better and with a kick of Slayer for more aggression. The riffs are sharp and violent, the solos are splendid, the tempos are varied and exciting, and Phillip Piris goes at it like Phil Rind's long-lost twin. I really wish I could say more, but these guys know their tradition and they managed to make an album on par with the classics of the scene they worship, so there's not much more I could add besides a sticker warning about the severe neck injuries that vicious whirlwinds like "UltraNation" and the title track will cause. A brick of Bay Area gold. |
