Steel Inferno have been kicking around in the underground for a while, but this is my first time listening to them. They have a reputation for playing speedy and enthusiastic Metal that parties like it's the mid '80s, and that's certainly what you get with this album, no more, no less. Apparently, they used to have a female vocalist, but they got someone new for this album, and while he's not knocking it out of the park, he has a powerful and energetic delivery that makes him enjoyable to listen to. Actually, "enjoyable but not amazing" is a pretty good summary of this album, for while every song has plenty of riffs and energy, none of them are really first-rate and tend to blend in together, the one exception being the mid-paced album closer "Claws of Death," which really shows the band stretching out with some killer guitar work and more involved songwriting. I'd say more, but with this kind of thing, you get what it says on the tin, and while they aren't a great band in the style, Steel Inferno are a damn fun one, and sometimes, that's all you need. |
