Xenomorph8472 (stands out from the other bands called Xenomorph, otherwise I have no clue what the numbers mean) is yet another one-man project that plays raw Black Metal. On the one hand, I could end it there since this debut album doesn't do anything you wouldn't expect from the genre, but on the other, it's a little too good to be so dismissive about. The production is suitably raw while still having a good amount of space, the songs are all blasts of evil and hatred with some solid melodic passages that start and end with sound clips from various films (the one exception being a cover of Shining's "Schwarzes industrielles Elend", which only has a clip at the end filled with eyeroll worthy edge), and the vocals are an undistinguished rasp that are mixed low enough to make their lack of syncopation or rhythm inoffensive. Outside of the moody instrumental "Omega Doom'', no one song stands out from the others when you take out the sound clips, but they all sustain themselves with a mood of post-apocalyptic desolation and fine tremolo strumming, so even if this doesn't rise above the competition just yet, Xenomorph8472 is at least off to a good start. |
