Triskelyon are a new 4-piece band hailing from Canada, and their debut, Downfall, has come to throw down the gauntlet of Power/Thrash. If you're like me and think the style requires sheer power and crisp guitar work, then you'll be happy to hear this band bases their sound entirely on that and top it off with the dual vocal assault of screamer Marlee Ryley and wailer Pete Healey (along with guest singers Amanda Jackson, Des Mason, and Ellim on a few tracks, all of which are decent), who both energize the material and serve as perfect complements to one another. Most of the songs on here are fast and furious, such as "Balance of Terror" with its Hanneman/King-esque riffing, the skull-piercing "Odyssey (Blessed by Steel)" and the powerful "A Time of War," though they do slow down a bit on the moody march of "Find a Way" while still remaining heavy as all hell. The only real drawback to their sound is the obvious drum machine, which really robs some of the power and excitement these songs have, but never enough to make them anything less than a head-flailing good time. Triskelyon don't reinvent the wheel of Power/Thrash, but they sure know how to keep it spinning, and that makes Downfall worth giving a spin of its own.
