I never really got into Satan for the simple reason that I always thought their metal was kind of lightweight for the name they chose for themselves. Not the best reason, I know. ;) Earth Infernal (indeed, keeping up with world news) follows in the same path as their previous work as it is filled with melodic heavy metal and I'd say that it is still firmly rooted in late '70s heavy rock/hard rock/heavy metal as their past work. That's not to say that they're not evolving, but Satan have a base sound and they're faithful to it while still sounding fresh enough that you can't say they're just stuck in their old ways and rehashing the same stuff. The vocal melodies are infectious, good luck getting some of those out of your head even after just one listen. The music is old-school heavy metal delivered with modern means, a little bit on the fast-ish side so you'll get some neck pain headbanging to some of this, but overall this is quite accessible. It's not the most exciting heavy metal album out there, but it's pretty solid through and through and it flows very well. And, damn, I know I've said it earlier, but those damn vocal melodies. Can't get those out of my head. This is a really good album when you're looking for something to ease down the tension after a binge on extreme metal or whatever. ;) |
